Joe was my training partner on the 737 back in 1987. I will never forget what a rewarding and instructive experience it was working with him. He was the consummate professional and gentleman. His approach to people and problems was something I would strive to emulate throughout my now 40 year career. Partnering with him for training was a gift. Joe, thanks for setting the standard. It lives on with us. My heartfelt condolences to your family.
Captain McCann (Joe) was not just a pilot colleague, but I was honored to call him a friend. Back in the mid seventies during a contentious union meeting my recall from office was being fiercely debated. Unfortunately for those in favor of the recall, they had not done their homework as it related to the recall process, but Joe McCann had done his homework on the subject. Although Joe McCann was a late arrival to the meeting, his presence was felt immediately when he declared, "Gentleman it is a moot point, you have the cart way in front of the horse." All you can do tonight is to vote to put the recall question the agenda for the next meeting. Joe McCann was standup guy, and he proved it that night. The protagonists were disappointed and I was delighted.
