Joseph Aloysius Kunkel's Obituary
Joseph (Jay) Aloysius Kunkel, 88, of Edgewater, MD, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2020 at his home surrounded by loved ones.
Joseph, known as Jay to his family and friends is survived by his daughter Theresa Shinnamon with her husband, Stephen; his son Michael with his girlfriend, Lynn O'Riordan; grandchildren Elaina, Deanna, Heather, Stephen,Jr. and great-grandchildren. Also survived by his sisters Laurie (Kunkel) Mills with her husband, Lloyd, Joyce (Kunkel) Beck and brother Chris Kunkel with his wife Janice., Predeceased by his loving wife, Anna of 58 years.
Jay was born October 16, 1931 in Baltimore, MD to Joseph and Angela (Hooper) Kunkel. He graduated from Loyola High School, Blakefield in 1949 and from Loyola College in 1956. He got married to the love of his life, Anna in 1955. Began his career in the Tire Industry working at several tire companies over the years before realizing his dream of owning his own business.
He had a zest for life exhibited by his love for sports, especially football, traveling, Broadway shows, Peter Lugers Steakhouse in NYC, and his sister, Laurie's fruitcake.
Special thanks to the Visiting Angels and Chesapeake Hospice for their wonderful attention and care to make his last years comfortable.
