Joanne Sayre Morschauser's Obituary
Joanne Sayre Morschauser, 83 of Edgewater MD, passed away on January 22, 2016.
Joanne was born in Memphis, TN on February 20, 1932, the daughter of Robert Baker Sayre and Lucille Dowdle Sayre. She graduated from Stephens College, with an Associate Arts degree in Broadcasting and Advertising in June, 1952.
Joanne went to work for Television Station WOR-TV in New York City, where she worked in the advertising department. In 1954, she joined J. Walter Thompson Advertising Company, also in New York City. In the spring of 1954, she met her first husband, Robert Burroughs Wolf, who was a commercial artist. It was love at first sight for both, and they were married at the Scarsdale Congregational Church on June 20, 1956.
Joanne was active in the Scarsdale Junior League and Saint James the Less Episcopal Church in Scarsdale. Both Joanne and Bob adored their son, Chris, and were actively involved in his activities, and enjoyed watching him play in his athletic events.
After Bob’s passing in 1981, Joanne went on to be happily married to Joseph Morschauser III, also of Scarsdale who passed away in 1993. Joe was a caring husband and wonderful step-father to Chris.
In 1997, Joanne moved permanently to Delray Beach, FL and joined St. Paul’s Church where she became very involved in church activities including the Episcopal Church Women (ECW). She enjoyed all of the local clubs, including the garden club, and activities offered in the “Village by the Sea.” She was a lifelong volunteer who enjoyed helping anyway she could at Old School Square museum.
Joanne always had a lighter side to balance the serious side of life. She was a kind and courageous person with a generous heart and a strong mother’s love and pride in her son and his family.
She leaves that son, Christopher Wolf, and a daughter-in-law, Sarah Wolf, and two grandchildren, Robert and Nathaniel of Edgewater; her brother, Bob Sayre, of Big Sur, CA; her step-children Joe Morschauser of Greenwich , CT and Ann and Frank Salem of Rye, NY and grandchildren Carter, Chad and Emily.
