Joan Davidson Young's Obituary
Joan Davidson Young, 91, passed away at home in Annapolis Maryland on October 26th.
Joan was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 4th, 1933, the daughter of Gladys and Bernard Davidson. Joan attended New Trier High School in Winetka Illinois, followed by a dual degree in History and Spanish from the University of Maryland College Park in 1955. Upon graduating from college, she married Harold Steiner Young in Darien Connecticut on September 17, 1955.
Joan worked as an elementary school teacher for Anne Arundel County Public Schools for 27 years. Her favorite grades to teach were 3rd and 5th. Her favorite pastimes were mainly in textiles. She was a talented knitter, and expert seamstress, sewing many dresses for her daughters. In retirement she enjoyed traveling with her husband, quilting, and reading. She especially loved spending time with her favorite people, her granddaughters and their families.
Joan is survived by her husband of 69 years; daughters: Anne Zolkower (Harry) and Jennifer Andreasen (David); granddaughters: Sarah (Sam), Charlotte (Marius), and Emily (Daniel); and great-granddaughters, Vera and Elise.
A memorial service will be held at Lasting Tributes, 814 Bestgate Road, Annapolis MD 21401 on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 11 am. Family and friends are welcome to gather at 10:30 am until the beginning of the service. Visitation will resume after the service until 12:30 pm. Joan's family will host a reception following the gathering at Lasting Tributes.
Donations, in honor of Joan and the many dogs she loved throughout her life, can be made to the SPCA, Annapolis MD.
