Joan Carter Chevalier's Obituary
Joan Carter Chevalier passed away September 18th, 2022 in Annapolis, Maryland.
Joan was born on November 20th, 1926 in Milan, Italy to Alan Carter and Marianne Townsend. Alan Peter Carter, a brother, was born in Ville De Neuilly- Sur-Seine near Paris, France in 1928. Peter passed away in 1980. Joan was also instrumental in the lives of her four half-brothers from her father’s second marriage.
Joan attended The Harvey School, Northfield Mount Hermon and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School.
Joan married Harold (Chev) Chevalier in 1946 in Woodstock, Vermont. They resided in Putney, Vermont, Cambridge and Concord, Massachusetts and Bethesda, Maryland. Chev passed away in 1991. In addition to being a devoted wife and homemaker Joan held secretarial positions at McLean Hospital, NIH, The National Cathedral, and for arms control expert Adam Yarmolinsky.
Joan is survived by her children Dr. Louisa Matthew, Edith Chevalier, Mark Chevalier (Karen), Dr. Joan Chevalier (Greg Anderson) and Charles Chevalier; grandchildren Samuel Judge (Rachael), Anna Judge, Katherine Armstrong (Paul Gablonski), Jacqueline Chevalier Mosely (Ben), Dr. Caroline Chevalier (Adam Dec), John Armstrong and Philip Chevalier; great grandchildren Sybyl and Teddy Judge, Carter Dec, and Fletcher and Jed Mosely and three of her four half brothers Tim, Kent and Thayer Carter. Eric Carter passed away in 2014.
Joan was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church and will be buried in her family plot at the Albany Rural Cemetery in Albany, New York.
