Jerry Allen Wolfe's Obituary
Jerry Allen Wolfe, of Annapolis, passed away on September 27, 2015. Born on Sept. 16, 1939 in Evansville, Ind., Jerry graduated from Owensboro Catholic High, Notre Dame University, BS in Physics and Penn State, MS in Engineering Science. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia Provenza Wolfe; his children Diane Green and her husband Jeff Green and Lois Wolfe Oechsle and her husband John Oechsle; two grandchildren, Nichole Green and Xander Waddell. Also surviving are his siblings, brothers Charles, Gregory, Samuel Wolfe and his sister Judith Mattingly and husband Alfred Mattingly and their families of Owensboro, Ky. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Elizabeth Wolfe.
Jerry Wolfe worked at General Electric early in his career. He was responsible for a number of important test programs for the Nation. One of them was the high pressure testing of the Mark 12 nose tip design thus resulting into all high performance military re-entry nose tips. He was also responsible for conducting impact erosion tests of aerospace thermal protection materials which lead to new materials for military vehicle system. Jerry retired from Orbital Sciences (formerly Fairchild Space & Defense) in Germantown, Md. in 2001. He had a distinguished career in the aerospace business including managing programs such as the Hubble Space Telescope and military satellite programs.
A viewing will be held at Lasting Tributes Cremation & Funeral Care, 814 Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, Md. on Thursday, October 1, 2015 from 11am-12pm followed by a noon service. Interment will be at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville, Md.
Jerry’s brain has been donated to the Johns Hopkins, Brain Resource Center for brain tissue to be used for Parkinson’s Disease, Parkinson’s Plus disorder, CBD.
The family would like to thank all the compassionate and loving caregivers at Assistant Living Well, Millersville, Md. and also the excellent care Jerry received from Hospice of the Chesapeake.
