Jerry Daniel Turner's Obituary
Jerry Daniel Turner was born in Shady Side, Maryland on December 25th, 1949, to Geraldine (Brooks) Offer and the late Allen (Sunny) Turner. Due to battling a brief illness, he peacefully departed this life on Thursday, November 17th, 2016. He fought a good battle with the help of his children, grandchildren, siblings, family members, and friends. Jerry graduated from Annapolis High School in the class of 1968. He then served many years in the Army and eventually became an aircraft engineer in the Reserves. He toured Vietnam, served in The Gulf War, and The Desert Storm where he developed the nickname “Boots” by his fellow veterans. Whenever Jerry heard gunshots, he would take off running and all you could see were his boots. He received an abundance of rewards for his service in the Army before his honorable discharge in 1988. Following his journey in the Army, he moved to Texas and later returned to Maryland after a year. Upon returning to his home state, he began attending Ebenezer Methodist Church in Galesville, Maryland. He was then employed at Tipton Airfield at Fort Meade Army Base as an aviation mechanical engineer. His specialty was working on helicopters and he often took his two sons Nicholas and Derrick to proudly show them his craft. He was also employed by Mr. Bruce Williams at Snow White Cleaners for many years. He went on to work in landscaping, personal contracting, and as a driver for The Department of Aging.
Jerry was known for being the jack of all trades. He was very good with is hands from cooking and baking to engineering. His hobbies included drawing, assembling model cars, doing home improvement, landscaping, mechanical work, and cooking. His specialties were crab cakes and homemade cakes. He put his heart into everything he touched with love. Jerry was gifted and talented with everything he did, and he did it with pride and honor. Jerry was a joy to be around with his great sense of humor and authentic comedic ways. You can guarantee you would find yourself laughing if you heard him saying his favorite phrase, “good googly moogly”. He had a passion for cars, especially his favorite car, a blue Camaro. On Sundays, he would take his children to the Dairy Queen in Odenton, Maryland where they attended car shows. One of his favorite places to take his family was to Capital Raceway. Jerry also played in a softball league in Galesville, Maryland. The love of Jerry's life was his family. The highlight of his day was any time he spent with his loved ones, including his beloved dog, Co-Co.
Jerry is preceded in death by his father: Allen (Sunny) Turner and his brothers; Allen Dexter Turner and Matthew Offer. He leaves to cherish his parents: Robert and Geraldine Offer; five daughters: Marshrakiki (Dee) Turner; La-Gena Creek (Albert); Taurus Turner; Jerwanda Turner; Sandra McGhee (Jeffery); five sons: Nicholas Turner (Koreka); Darryl Johnson; Robert Johnson (Michelle); Derrick Sturgis; one sister: Lucinda Spearman (James); four brothers: Adrian Blake; Ronnie Offer (Sheryl); Robert Offer, Jr. (Darlene) and David Offer; one sister-in-law: Jacqueline Turner; two aunts: Delores Johnson; Betsy Turner; goddaughter: Chellita Jackson; 23 grandchildren, 28 great grand- children; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a devoted girlfriend: Vivian (Teeny) Holland , special friends: Gregory Booze, Patricia and Wade Hall, William Jackson, Lorenzo (Champ) Turner, Harold Turner and Loretta Wells.
