Janet Frances Wood's Obituary
Janet (Jan) Wood was born on January 23, 1938 in Bay City, Michigan. She died on February 6, 2022 in Annapolis, Maryland.
She follows her beloved husband, Dr. Douglas Wood, who died in October of 2019. Jan was the second on the six children born to Rae and Francis Janicke. She leaves behind her last remaining sibling, Joseph Janicke.
Jan was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and dog mom. She was also a nurse who, during her career, worked with people from the cradle (obstetrics) to the grave (hospice). She was also giving and brave - she volunteered, on several occasions, at a mission hospital in Zimbabwe in the 1990s, while AIDS was ravaging the country, and regaled her family with stories of the "bush medicine" she practiced, and the many lives she touched, from inoculating children to comforting the dying, and everything in between.
Jan loved to learn and held two bachelor's degrees and two master's degrees. She was truly a student of the world and traveled extensively, embracing every different culture that she encountered.
Jan was described as spicey, sassy and full of life. Her grandchildren remember as "unconventional" and her great grandchildren referred to her as "the great one".
Jan leaves behind her four children, her six grandchildren, her two great children and her beloved dogs (Ebony and Leo). She will truly be missed.......
