James Williams' Obituary
James Savoy Williams (affectionately called Sobie), age 92, of Skidmore, Annapolis, Maryland, closed his eyes to rest on Monday, August 12, 2013 at Future Care Nursing Home. He was born May 14, 1921 to the late Albert and Edna Williams.
He was educated in Anne Arundel County Public Schools and attended Asbury Broadneck United Methodist Church at an early age with his family. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged.
Sobie loved driving and worked for many years as a taxi driver in New York City, an occupation he retired. He also worked in the hotel industry in NYC and had plenty of funny stories to tell about his work, family, friends, and co-workers. Sobie loved reading his Bible and traveling, and could often be found reminiscing about his times living in New York, New Jersey, and Virginia where he lived until the passing of his second wife, Mabel.
In 1994, Sobie moved back to Annapolis and helped care for his ill brother, Joe. In his later years, Sobie also helped care for his lifetime devoted friend, Bessie I. Johns. He was a loving and caring person and enjoyed helping others. He was frequently seen taking friends and family members to the store.
Sobie was a widower. His first wife Ophelia preceded him in death, as well as his second wife, Mabel. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Charles (Joe) Williams, Sr., and two sisters, Helen (Pip) Harris and Ophelia (Sis) Brown.
Sobie leaves to cherish his memories a devoted Goddaughter, Delores Green and her family; one sister-in-law, Viola Williams, four nieces, six nephews, a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
