James Edward Thomas' Obituary
James Edward Thomas was born in Mayo, MD on February 26, 1927 to the late Sadie Cook-Thomas and the late Marshall Thomas. He transitioned into eternity on November 24, 2014.
James was a lifelong resident of Mayo and received his education in the Anne Arundel County Public School system.
At the age of 21, he served his country by enlisting in the United States Army in 1948 and trained at Fort George Meade in Maryland. James was stationed in Alaska and traveled to several countries that included Germany and Korea. In 1950, he received an honorable discharge as an Army Private 1st class.
James was a hardworking man and at the age of 87 continued to work until his final day. He was employed by Axman Surveying where he surveyed land for 2 years. He was then employed by Hillcrest Cemetery and retired after 20 years and as self-employed doing landscaping.
Although James worked physically hard, he was also an intelligent man and was a businessman of the neighborhood. He was a tax preparer, a banker and a book keeper and kept track of and documented everything.
James lived a simple life and was a homebody and enjoyed gardening, listening to radio, reading and watching his favorite TV shows; Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and Steve Harvey on Family Feud. James had a heart of gold and his greatest joys were playing with his grandchildren and spending time with family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memories 7 children, Clayton Thomas, Constance Forrester (Richard), Theresa Thomas, Terry Watkins (Louis), Marsha Thomas, Augustus McGowan and the late Gregory Boston; 12 grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Thomas; one sister Josephine Thomas; one sister in law, Darlene Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Ellean Harrison, Anna Mae Thomas, Marie Thomas, and Doreen Thomas; two brothers, Herbert Marshall Thomas and Norman Thomas and a devoted friend Betty Colbert.
