James Andrew Seerey's Obituary
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of James Andrew Seerey, known to his friends and family as Pete or Jim. On Sunday, October 29th, Pete, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his home in Millersville, MD.
Pete was born in Hazleton, PA on July 27, 1930 to James Andrew Seerey and Elsie (Gaffney) Seerey. He was raised in Freeland, PA where he grew up surrounded by his large extended family.
After serving in the Army, Pete graduated from Kings College in Wilkes-Barre, PA with a degree in Economics. He married Helen McCabe in May of 1961 and shortly thereafter moved to Maryland for his career. They settled in Anne Arundel County and raised their three children, Jim, Sean, and Molly.
Over the years, Pete worked in sales for several manufacturers in the janitorial and food service industries. In 1974, he started his own business, Jim Seerey Associates. He finished his career partnering with his son Jim and Michael Liebowitz of New York at Osprey Sales, Inc. Never one to sit around, he did not fully retire until the age of 85 and was respected for his integrity, honesty, industry knowledge, and dedication to his customers.
Pete, a proud Irishman, was a lifetime member of the Sons of Erin and an active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Pete is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Helen McCabe Seerey, his sons, Jim and Sean, his daughter, Molly, his daughters-in-laws Ruth and Jennifer, his four grandchildren, Meghan, Maggie, Seamus, and Aidan, all of Severna Park, his sisters, Kathryn Yori of New Hampshire and Maureen Nunes of Texas, his aunt, Agnes Gaffney Brogan of Pennsylvania, several sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Pete will always be remembered for his charm, quick wit, generous spirit, and devotion to family and friends. He lit up every room he entered.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 10th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Lasting Tributes located at 814 Bestgate Road, Annapolis. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 11th at 9am at St. Mary’s Church located at 109 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis. Interment will be held Monday, November 13th at 1:45pm at the Veteran’s Cemetery located at 1122 Sunrise Beach Road in Crownsville, MD.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pete’s honor to Hospice of the Chesapeake (hospicechesapeake.org) or to the Dallas Mid-Atlantic Region of the Sisters of Mercy in Dallas, PA (sistersofmercy.org/donate).
