James Henry Johnson's Obituary
James H. Johnson Sr., affectionately known as “Smokeman”, was gently and peacefully called home by God on Tuesday January 10, 2017 at Levindale Hospital in Baltimore, MD. James was born on November 28, 1945 to the late Hartford Arthur Johnson and Mary Jeanette Johnson.
As a young boy James attended Wiley H. Bates High School. Shortly after high school he became a Short Order Cook at Britt’s, the local department store in Annapolis. From there James went on to work at Kmart and the State of Maryland for many years where he retired. He was a member of Mount Olive A.M.E Church for many years where he found his faith.
James’ hobbies included playing golf with his Dad and good friend Dave Boy. He enjoyed a good party and great music where he would often brag about seeing singers before they made it big at Carr's Beach in Annapolis. He loved his family, friends and the Washington Redskins.
James spirit and memories will forever live in the hearts of family and friends.
James is preceded in death by one brother Hartford A. Johnson, one sister Elizabeth C. Johnson, and one grandson Irving Pritchett. James leaves five children to cherish his memories, one son; James H. Johnson Jr. (Traci), and four daughters; Avis Johnson- Brandford (Sherman), Dorothea Abrims (Jack), Michelle Rawlings (Calvin), and Yolanda Johnson. He also leaves to cherish his memories two brothers; Richard E. Johnson and Melvin E. Johnson both of Annapolis, three sisters; Arthenia Johnson- LeFlore, Jeanette D. Johnson both of Baltimore, Rose Steed- Parker of Annapolis, MD. Devoted friend Lily Parker, one Goddaughter Erin Green, and a special buddy Tyler Johnson. James also leaves a host of grandchildren, great- grandchildren, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
