James LeRoy Hasty's Obituary
James LeRoy Hasty, age 71, passed away at his home in Crownsville, Maryland on May 9,
2024. He was born on September 13, 1952 to Thomas Hasty and Delores (McDonnell) Hasty in
Washington, D.C.
Jim was a 1970 graduate of Bladensburg High School. After graduation, he joined the military
and served our country until his discharge in 1971 to begin his career with the Prince George’s
County Police Department. He served as a police officer for 23+ years, retiring in 1994 with the
rank of Corporal. His passion for working within the community led him to focus his commitment
as a patrol officer for the entirety of his career.
After retiring from the police department he began his next career as a Investigator/Counselor
with Prince George’s County Public Schools. He served 21 years, retiring in 2015.
Jim’s work ethic set the example for his daughters to choose careers as public servants. Jenny
became a Special Educator and Jamie a Registered Nurse. Through his numerous police
stories, it inspired his two nephews to choose the same career path, with one serving as a
Prince George’s County Police Officer (Garrett) and the other a Maryland State Trooper
(Jeremy).
Jim was a member of the Retiree Association at Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 89.
He represented Prince George’s County Police Department at state and national conventions.
He always looked forward to spending time with his FOP family.
Jim was larger than life, he never met a stranger, but his greatest love was his family. He lived to
entertain, loved to cook and shared the most descriptive stories about food. He was an avid
sports fan, loved the Washington Redskins, Baltimore Orioles, and University of Maryland
Basketball. He enjoyed playing softball, golfing, and fishing. He looked forward to hosting
weekly family Sunday dinners, taking annual trips to the beach and recent travels with his wife
and friends. He also enjoyed daily trips to his neighborhood liquor store, hanging with buddies,
and playing the lottery.
Jim’s most beloved and rewarding “career” was being “Big Dad” to his three grandsons; Alex,
Ben and Camden. Big Dad enjoyed talking to Alex about life, discussing history, and current
events. He enjoyed spending time with Ben in many ways, like talking about the past, telling
each other stories, fishing, running the roads together and most importantly always spending
time together whenever there was a chance. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and accompanying
Camden to sporting events.
Jim is survived by his wife and best friend of 44 years, Angela (Deese) Hasty. God blessed them
with two daughters, Jenny Laine Morgan (Sam), and Jamie Leigh Kirschner (Daniel), as well as
grandsons, Alexander Morgan, Benjamin Morgan, and Camden Kirschner. He is also survived
by numerous family and friends that loved him.
The family will receive friends for the visitation on Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 10:00 am -
12:00 pm, with the service beginning at 12:00 pm at Lasting Tributes, 814 Bestgate Road,
Annapolis, Maryland 21401. Following the service we invite friends and family for a celebration
of life at The Morgan’s.
