James "Sonny" Amos Sr.'s Obituary
James Allen Amos Sr. (Sonny), 84, passed away the morning of January 29, 2025. James (Sonny) was born in Annapolis, Maryland on September 6, 1940 to parents Thomas Edward Amos and Anna Kathryn Amos (Tolson). James (Sonny) attended high school in Annapolis, Maryland. He served in the United States Army, and upon completion of his service, attended the Police Academy. He then worked as a police officer for the Annapolis City Police Department for a time, before working as a home improvement contractor until retirement. While working as a contractor, James also had his real estate license and worked with Glenco Realty and Champion Realty in Annapolis. He loved his dogs and his family, and he found enjoyment in crabbing, NASCAR races, travel, and classic car shows. He was a lifetime member of the Moose, Elks, and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Brenda, his daughter Kathryn (Chrissi), his parents Thomas and Anna, his sister Margaret Ann Murphy, and his brother-in-law Richard Miller. He is survived by his son, James Amos Jr. (Vicki) and his daughter Margaret Amos Dudek (Alan), as well as 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. His loss will also be felt by his sisters, Kathryn Miller, Ellen Klimes (Bobby), Alice powers (Tom), and his faithful canine companion Chico.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Lasting Tributes, located at 814 Bestgate Road, Annapolis, Maryland 21401. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Lasting Tributes, preceded by a one-hour visitation, beginning at 11:30 AM. Graveside services and interment are to follow at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery.
