Jacqueline Marie Gage's Obituary
Jacqueline Marie Gage (Soucy), 79, passed away at home with her loving family on
Saturday, November 18, 2023, after a yearlong battle with cancer. Jackie had previously fought and won two bouts of breast cancer.
Jackie was born on August 4, 1944, the daughter of Edouard Soucy and Georgette Soucy (Dallaire). Jackie attended parochial schools in Manchester, NH and spoke both French and English. Jackie met her husband, Frederick John Gage, through her brother, Edgar and fell in love. They were married for 44 adventurous years.
The family lived in many beautiful cities, throughout their marriage, finally settling in Arnold, MD. Along the way, Jackie made many friends who became like family, most notably the Lord, Tempestilli, Dove and Geithner families. Jackie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends here in Arnold and her winter home in Florida. She had a passion for gardening and was skilled at bringing her garden to life. She especially loved unique plants and filled every nook and cranny with botanicals. Her other hobbies included knitting, traveling, playing Mahjong and boating on our beautiful Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Jackie also enjoyed gathering with her Pictionary group, which has been together for close to 40 years. In Florida she spent happy hours with friends and her dog, Scruffy at the Puppy Park, with her “Knotty Knitters” group or entertaining. She was always busy doing something fun.
Jackie was known as a loving, funny, sweet, strong, positive person who was skilled at putting a smile on your face. She loved spending time with her son, daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. She was an amazing, positive person; an exemplary mother, sister and friend. She has gone to be with her husband, as she said a few days before she left that he was coming to help her.
Jackie is predeceased by her husband, Fred and son Michael Gage, who died immediately following his birth. She is survived by her son, David Gage; daughter, Kathleen Smith (Gage); son-in-law, Philip Smith; grandchildren, Jessica Nicholson (Smith) and her husband Nate Nicholson; grandson, Foster Smith; granddaughter, Allison Smith; grandson, Jack Smith; brother, Laurent Soucy; sister, Denise Breton (Soucy), also much loved sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.
A church service will be held at St. Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church, 701 College Pkwy, Arnold, MD 21012 on Monday, December 4, 2023, at 11:00 am with a Celebration of Life at the church hall immediately following the mass. The family requests that guests wear colorful attire to reflect Jackie’s personality. In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation may be made to any cancer research foundation of their choosing.
Jackie leaves behind a legacy of love.
