Jacob Harlen Meyer's Obituary
On Friday, January 14, 2022, Jacob Harlen Meyer (Jake), loving husband and father, passed away at age 87. Jake was born on March 22, 1934, in Buffalo, NY to Jacob and Eloise Meyer. On September 18, 1955, he married the love of his life, Angela Zerega. They raised three sons, James, John, and Donald.
Jake had a passion for life and was loved by many. He was a kind, gentle and peaceful man, who loved his family so much, that his entire office was adorned with family memorabilia. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world and he was unendingly proud of his three children.
Jake was a 1952 graduate of Laurel High School, served in the U.S. Navy, and later earned his degree in Business Administration from Southeastern University. As a young entrepreneur, he entered the workforce as a paperboy for The Washington Post, where he learned to work with people and handle money, a position he was extremely proud of. Following his Honorable Discharge from the Navy, he was employed by AT&T, where he also served as Shop Steward for Communication Workers of America, Local 2336. He concluded his 30-year career working in the House and Senate Office buildings on Capitol Hill.
In his retirement, Jake enjoyed music, dancing, watching sports, playing the stock market, walking on the beach, and making many friends along the way. He was just the kind of person who drew people in and was known for his entertaining stories, which he loved to repeat often.
Jake was preceded in death by his son John, granddaughter Angela, father Jacob, mother Eloise, stepfather Erwin, sister Mary McDonough (Francis), and brother Robert. He is survived by his wife Angela, sons James (Jenny) and Donald (Kathy), grandchildren Donald “Nick”, Rebecca Calderon (Joshua), and John. He is also survived by his sister Betty Roberts, and brother-in-law James Zerega (Sue).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122.
