Jack Mitchell's Obituary
John “Jack Mitchell of Silver Spring, MD passed away at his home on October 24, 2014. He was 76.
Jack lived most of his life in New Jersey and currently resided in Riderwood Village, Silver Spring. He spent most of his early years attending St. Mary’s H.S. were he ran track, played snare drum in the band and served as an altar boy at church. As a young adult, he coached baseball, volunteered as a fireman, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks and Hibernians.
Jack was employed as an agent at Allstate Insurance Company for 18 years. He later developed his own landscaping business which resulted in employment at Home Depot gardening while living in New Jersey. While living in Clifton, NJ, he won some community lawn competitions. When he moved to Maryland, he continued his employment with Home Depot’s Garden Department.
Jack loved Irish music and dance. He visited Ireland four times during his life. He enjoyed traveling and was a devoted fan of Notre Dame. Jack will always be remembered as a very loving Dad and Grandfather.
Jack is survived by his wife Phyillis Sym Mitchell; two sons, Jack (Danielle) and Kevin (Marilyn) Mitchell; step children Claire Gisselbeck (Brian), Kevin Sym (Marie), and Kenneth Sym (Celene); sister, Agnes Lyncheski; two grandchildren, Halle and Megan; five step grandchildren, Alex, Danielle, Kourtenei, Ariane and Austin. He is predeceased by his first wife, Florence Schack.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 1 PM at the Church of the Resurrection at Riderwood Chapel 3110 Gracefield Rd. Silver Spring, MD 20904.
