Irwin Charles Eyet III's Obituary
Irwin Charles "Charlie" Eyet III, 72, of Crofton, MD, passed away on December 30, 2025, at Arbor Terrace Waugh Chapel following an extended illness.
Charlie was born on February 18, 1953, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, the son of Irwin Charles Eyet II and Elizabeth Martina (Marley) Eyet. He grew up in Plains, PA, attending Lt. Duddy Elementary School and graduating from Plains High School in 1970. Charlie earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State University in 1974. He married June E. Evans on October 9, 1976, at the Church of Christ Uniting in Kingston, PA. He later earned his MBA from Wilkes University in 1984.
Charlie began his career teaching industrial arts at Dallas Jr. High School from 1974 to 1979. He then worked at Sterling Industries and InterMetro before joining Toyota Motor Sales USA in West Caldwell, NJ, in 1984. His distinguished career with Toyota spanned 32 years until his retirement in 2016, including various leadership positions such as VP of Port Operations, leading Toyota's operations at the Port of Baltimore, where he was the recipient of a Governor of Maryland's Citation for his visionary leadership, and Manager of Regional Parts Depot Operations at the Parts Distribution Center in Glen Burnie, MD. He also played a key role in launching the Lexus division in the United States.
A true motorhead, Charlie loved fixing cars, attending car races, and enjoying TV shows about vintage cars. He was a fixer at heart—whether repairing vehicles or building wooden furniture—always ready to help anyone, anytime, anywhere. Charlie's kind and generous spirit touched everyone he knew. He loved traveling with his family, visiting forty-two U.S. states and taking numerous trips overseas, with Ireland holding a particularly special place in his heart.
Charlie was deeply involved with churches throughout his life. In Kingston, PA, he was active at Church of Christ Uniting and later at Community United Methodist Church in Crofton, MD, where he served as a trustee focused on capital improvements.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, June; son, Jeff (and Janelle) Eyet; daughter, Karen (and John) Gaitan; two grandchildren, Harper and Oliver; his sisters, Kathleen (and BJ) Pino, Elizabeth (and Scott) Whitesell, Eileen (and Mike) Mayer, and Nora (and Keith) Barreca; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, aunts, and uncles.
