Ingrid Ann Lindberg's Obituary
Ingrid Ann Lindberg, 76, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family, on November 30, 2025, in Catonsville, Maryland, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on May 21, 1949, to Emil Matteus Lindberg and Ruth Adelaide Lindberg (Potter), Ingrid lived a life marked by the strength, curiosity, and grace she inherited from her parents. From a young age, she possessed fierce independence and an eagerness to explore the world. She attended Penn State University, where she studied psychology and later earned a master’s degree in education. While in college, she was a member of the Coed Affiliates Pershing Rifles team—an all-women’s drill team at a time when women had not yet been integrated into all-men’s ROTC Pershing Rifle units.
After college, Ingrid began her career as a civilian employee with the Department of Defense, a role that took her across Europe and satisfied her love of adventure. She delighted in the fast pace of the Autobahn, finding pure joy in driving—whether on a motorcycle or behind the wheel of her beloved Porsche 911. For Ingrid, the thrill of the open road was unmatched. She also found great purpose throughout her career, guiding military and civilian personnel through the complexities of pursuing well-earned education benefits. She had a remarkable gift for connecting with people and a genuine desire to see others succeed.
While Ingrid embraced the passions of her youth, her greatest joy and purpose were found in her role as a mother and grandmother. Her daughters, Jenny and Briana, were not only her children but her pride and joy. Ingrid never missed an opportunity to share stories of her daughters and grandchildren, celebrating their accomplishments with boundless pride. Together, Ingrid, Jenny, and Briana forged an extraordinary bond, which they all cherished through every chapter of life.
Ingrid met and married Tom White (Colonel, Ret.) on July 20, 1996. Their union brought renewed joy, laughter, and love into Ingrid’s life, as well as deeply cherished relationships with her stepchildren, Elizabeth Jernigan and Spencer White. After retiring to Severna Park, Maryland, Ingrid and Tom built a life filled with warmth, shared passions, and faith. Together, they were active members of Woods Presbyterian Church, where Ingrid devoted herself to service. She volunteered at food drives, supported homeless shelters, and lovingly knitted prayer shawls for those in need. Even in retirement, Ingrid continued giving of herself by volunteering at the local library, where she found joy in helping others and sharing her love of reading.
Beyond her professional and volunteer work, Ingrid’s loved music. As a member of The Arundelair Chorus in Annapolis, Maryland, she delighted in harmony, competition, and the camaraderie of singing together. She held a deep passion for barbershop music and loved performing with her chorus over the years.
Throughout her life, Ingrid enjoyed being active in sports such as tennis, racquetball, and running. She loved baking cheesecakes and spritz cookies. She especially loved knitting clothing and Christmas stockings for her children and grandchildren.
Although dementia gradually took much from Ingrid over the final decade of her life, it never stole her warm smile, gentle hugs, or kind heart. She remained deeply loved by many. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate teams at Brightview Senior Living and Gilchrist Hospice for their exceptional care and support. Their kindness and professionalism brought comfort to Ingrid and her family during a difficult journey.
While we mourn Ingrid’s passing, we find solace in knowing she is reunited with her parents, her brother Carl Lindberg, sister-in-law Bonni Lindberg, and her beloved husband Thomas White, who preceded her in death.
Ingrid will be deeply missed by her loving family: Jenny and Chris Sergeant, and their children—Chloe, Estelle, Audrey, and Warren; Briana and Jeff Guinn, and their children—Jonam, Merritt, and Sophie; her stepdaughter Elizabeth Jernigan, her husband Andy, and their children—Ashton, Jordan, and Garrett; her stepson Spencer White, his wife Becky, and their children—Cooper, Trisha, Jackson, and Anderson; her sister and dear friend Pamela Foe and her husband Jeff; her brother-in-law Lee White; and the many individuals whose lives were enriched by Ingrid’s presence.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Anne Arundel County Public Library (https://aacpl.net/foundation/donate), an organization dear to Ingrid’s heart. In accordance with her wishes, no public services will be held. Ingrid’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by her kindness, her strength, and her unwavering love
