Helen A. Crowner's Obituary
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Psalm 23:1–6
Helen A. Crowner, 79, was born on June 20, 1944, in Cumberstone, Maryland. Helen, affectionately known as Ann, by her friends and family, was born to the late Jake Jones and Elizabeth Downs. On May 10, 2024, Ann peacefully made her transition from her earthly home to her eternal resting place, with her family by her side.
Ann received her education in the Anne Arundel County Public School System. On July 21, 1963, Ann was united into holy matrimony to Thomas B. Crowner and from their union were four children.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas B. Crowner; mother, Elizabeth Downs; father, Jake Jones; two brothers, James and Bryan Gross; granddaughter, Janae Weston; two grandsons, Emark Galloway Jr. and Terron Offer; great grandson Taelyn Offer; two sisters-in-law, Cynthia Butler and Joyce Kerrick; three brothers-in-law, Benjamin and Lincoln Crowner and Steven Thomas.
Ann’s physical presence will be truly missed, but her legacy of love and compassion will live on in those she leaves to cherish her memory: her four children: Cynthia, Florence, Thomasine and Patricia Crowner; Eight grandchildren: Sherrell Crowner, John Dorsey, Keith Williams, Quaniece Green, Timeka and Takyra Galloway, Patrice Stansbury and Kamari Scott; Fifteen great grandchildren: Kailyn Watkins, Jewelz, Emiyah, Emari and Emery Galloway, Julius Snowden, Jamyhan, Sariya, Jali, J’Sean Dorsey and John Dorsey Jr., Cerie, Kannon, Kei’Land, and Catalina Williams. Ann also leaves many fond memories to be cherished by her two Sisters: Alice Roland and Doris Gross; three brothers: William (Gwen), Darren (Renae) and Derrick Gross; two sisters-in-law: Sylvia Butler (Jerome) and Evelyn Thomas; three brothers-in-law: Walter (Mary), Jerome (Sylvia) and Izar Kerrick Sr; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved her dearly.
Ann, enjoyed cooking, especially for the holidays. Her favorite dishes were macaroni and cheese, sweet potatoes and her tasty rice pudding. Until she got sick, she was still receiving requests for her rice pudding. We can still remember when she used to make homemade cakes, fried apples and black berry mush for us when we were children. Umph Umph Umph! She also enjoyed playing cards with her children. I will never forget the way she would yell, TONK BABY every time she would tonk out. She also enjoyed her cross word puzzles and listening to oldie but goodies. Otis Redding, Al Green and Barry White, just to name a few. She enjoyed watching her soap operas, court shows, game shows and crime shows, especially Law and Order. Ann also loved to walk. Before she got sick, you would see her walking all the time with either her children, grandchildren or great grandchildren. But most of all, Ann enjoyed spending time with her family whom she absolutely cherished.
Lastly, I must share that Ann was indeed a fighter. She battled with her sickness for three and a half years and you would not believe what she went through or how many times she bounced back from it. She would always say, “God got my back,” and “when it’s my time, it’s my time,” and there is nothing anyone can do about it! Well I guess, on May 10, 2024, it was her time and I know without a doubt, that God still has her back! We will truly miss her feistiness, infectious laugh, fighting spirit and never ending strength, as we face this life without her. We know who greeted her and what a reunion that will be! Ann is healed from all of the sickness in her body and is now resting in the Bosom of her Lord and Savior.
