Gregory Thomas Lapitsky's Obituary
Greg leaves a legacy of love and integrity with his family, friends and all who knew him. He has left behind some wonderful memories of being a loving husband, and a kind and loyal friend. We are grateful for each and every day we got to see his glowing smile, for all the lessons learned, and for all the jokes we shared.
Gregory Thomas Lapitsky, 70, passed away peacefully at home on June 15, 2023.
Greg was born at West Point Military Academy in New York on March 15, 1953, the son of Mattvei Lapitsky and Stella (Sylak) Lapitsky. The family eventually moved to Takoma Park, MD where Greg attended High Point High School. He was a gifted basketball player, but a severe knee injury cut short dreams of being a college player. He then changed direction and went to work as a plumber, going on to achieve his Master Plumber’s license in short order. He married his sweetheart, Carol, on December 14, 1991.
After many years working for various companies, Greg started his own company in 1996. He was extremely proud of GreCo Plumbing and Heating and enjoyed a large base of satisfied customers. After 20 years of working non-stop, he decided to change to a 9-5 job with Leisure World of Maryland in order to spend more quality time with his wife, traveling and pursuing new adventures. One of those new adventures was learning to play the piano at 68 years old. He was particularly proud of this achievement and played for anyone that would listen. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed a good cigar with a glass of bourbon – especially when enjoying them with his buddies.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Carol; and his brother Matt. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and God-daughters – all of whom he loved very much.
Visitation will be at Lasting Tributes Funeral Care, 814 Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, MD 21401 on Saturday, June 24, 2023 beginning at 2:00pm. A funeral service will follow at the same location 3:00pm, followed by a repast immediately after.
In lieu of flowers, people may contribute to either The Hospice of the Chesapeake; or to the American Nurses Foundation.
