Gloria Frances Barstow's Obituary
On May 2, 2024, Chester, Maryland resident Gloria F. Barstow passed away following a lengthy illness. She was 91 years old.
Gloria was born on January 29, 1933, to William and Edna Breslau. She grew up on South Paca St. in South Baltimore. Following her first marriage she moved to Anne Arundel County, Maryland. She was a longtime resident of Anne Arundel County, residing in Old Glory Beach and then for a considerable time at Arbutus Road in Riviera Beach. She moved to Kent Island, living there since the 1980s. Gloria had worked in clerk positions for the State of Maryland and for Nationwide Insurance Company, where she eventually retired.
Gloria is survived by two sons, Donald H. Huber, Jr. of Annapolis, Maryland and Kenneth H. Quasney, Jr, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, and his wife Rose A. Quasney. Gloria has two Grand Children, Kenneth H. Quasney III, of Millersville, Maryland and Christina K. Quasney, studying in Boston, Massachusetts. Just days before her death, Gloria had become a Great Grand Mother, by the birth of Luca Theodore Quasney Russell.
Gloria was a loving mother. She always placed her children first. Her goal was to give them the best childhood that she could. She always let her children be children. She made Christmas like a fantasy land holiday. She participated in school trips, festivals and plays, making costumes for school plays. She always did what it took to make her children happy. Summers were a joy. This carried over to her grandchildren for which one recently wrote how Gloria loved her grandchildren “with all her heart… She did everything in her power to give us a magical time.” This was Gloria’s gift to her family. She would have loved to have met her great grandson. As we celebrate Gloria’s life, a new generation emerges.
Gloria loved to travel. She always wished she had done more traveling. She loved cruises. She visited Europe, Mexico, and around the United States. She often said that she wished she had visited each and every state.
Gloria’s funeral will be a private family affair. In lieu of flowers, kindly make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
