Gertrude Doretha Elliott's Obituary
Gertrude Doretha Thomas Elliott was born in Royal Oak, Maryland on February 12, 1935 to the late Charles Edward Green & Lillian Thomas Green. She graduated from Robert R. Moton High School in 1953. She attended Maryland State Teachers College at Bowie (Now Bowie State University) and graduated in 1957. She furthered her education at Towson State University in their MBA/Certification Program.
On Friday November 21, 2014 at 1:15pm, G. Doretha Elliott quietly entered into eternal rest at her residence surrounded by her loved ones.
Doretha or “Dimp”, as she was fondly known, dedicated her life to educating children in the Queen Anne’s County Public School System for over 36 years. She retired in 1990.
Doretha received her early religious training at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Royal Oak, MD. She was a current member of Mt. Moriah AME church in Annapolis, MD, where she attended faithfully, until her health began to fail.
Doretha was an active member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority for many years.
She was also an active member of the Annapolis Chapter of the Delicados, Inc. for many years.
Doretha was a very loving woman who cared deeply for her family and friends. She loved to travel, and did so as often as she could until her health declined. She and her husband, Randolph, became world travelers over the years, having placed their feet on nearly every continent on earth, traveling by plane, ship, or car. She had a heart of gold and would help anyone in need. She loved to cook for her family and friends, and boy did her family and friends love for her to cook for them- she could burn!! She often entertained them too, having many cookouts, picnics, and card parties. Her favorite past times were playing Scrabble, playing Pinochle, Playing Pokeno, and Whistling!!
Besides her parents, Doretha was proceeded in death by two brothers, George W. Green, Jr. & Norman M. Green; and one sister, Pearl M. Brooks.
She leaves to cherish her memories a very loving and devoted husband, Randolph A. Elliott, Sr., one loving and faithful daughter who was constantly by her side to the end, Charmaine Waters (William), a loving son, Randolph A. Elliott, Jr. (Donna), and a loving granddaughter that was by her side and helping to care for her every night, Precious Waters.
Doretha had other wonderful grandchildren that equally loved her and were just as devoted to her. Ashley Elliott Bennett (Kareem), Paige Elliott, Taylynn Elliott, Rhamel Peyton Elliott, Kianu Walker, Savannah Walker, and Nevada Walker. She had one great-grand Daughter, Jada Bennett.
Three sisters- Mary Morris (Ernest), Geraldine Brummell, Georgetta Potter, sister-in-law Marvel Travis (Kenneth), brother-in-law Palestine Elliott (Mary), brother-in-law Fredrick Elliott (Constance), cousin Frank Gibson (Joan) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She also left behind two very devoted and dedicated friends that were as close as sisters to her- Ramona Long and Rebecca Turner.
