Jerry was more than just another cousin. He was special not only for the gentleman he always was but more so for the dedication, thoughtfulness and love for his family. Though there was a 6 year difference in our ages, the person everyone knew was the same person when as a shy "kid" cousin he visited with his parents the country relatives who lived in Coal Valley, in those days a far distance from Duquesne, almost 5 miles as a matter of fact. He was quiet, observant and above all nice. And that pretty much summarizes who he was: respectful, intelligent, considerate, interesting, faithful, at times awesome, but above all nice!
In more recent years, Jerry came to be more than a distant cousin; his interest in tracking his dad's military adventures in World War II dovetailed with my fascination of World War II history and we spent many hours in Marco having intriguing conversations. My God, the man knew his history, with dates, sequences and locations of events that boggled my mind.
As his dad (Uncle Curly) was my childhood hero, so Jerry was my very special cousin. What we shared in early life experiences cannot be further shared.
Farewell dear cousin, may the Good Lord cradle you in His arms and may Andrea and her family derive comfort in their memories of the love and affection you had for them.
