It’s hard to put into words exactly how much Mrs. Georgeanna Queen meant to so many people and just how many lives she touched. More than I could ever begin to count.
Affectionately referred to as “Queen”, We shared a wall and a hallway for almost 20 years, but our friendship lasted much longer.
Like so many others, I loved her dearly. Eric, and the boys did too.
She was a surrogate auntie, a second mom when life got hard, a grounding voice, and a spiritual force. I was truly blessed to spend some, if not the, best days of my career with her.
Queen— truly embodied her name.
There was shared laughter, frustration, tears and joy. We held it down, and some days we were just trying to hold it together tag teaming whatever situation (little person) popped up.
She always had legal pad upon legal pad filled with notes about the people she advocated for. She went to battle time and time again…and sometimes that meant putting folks in their rightful place.
I can still see her now, grabbing her notepad and rushing out of her office past my door. Sometimes, if I was lucky, she’d drop off a special friend who had been spending some quiet time in her office before heading off to put out yet another fire. Talking through her teeth and saying exactly what needed to be said. A cuss-out without a single cuss word. Ever. And then, just like that, she and her left hand, Murphy, would be laughing about whatever had just happened.
She lit up when she talked about her family—especially her three daughters. And then came QueenEducator Robyn aka “Little Queen,” the second generation to make her mark in education and in the same building. There were many visits from Mr. Queen too.
To the Queen family, I hope you find comfort in knowing and hearing just how deeply she was loved and how many lives she touched. Queen was a lot of fun 🖤💜 and Heaven just got a little better.
Through grief there is gratitude.
