George hired me to work for him at the SEC in Enforcement and was the single best supervisor in any job that I ever had, anywhere. The passion, conviction and common sense that George brought to work was truly a template for success and motivated me to emulate his "big picture" approach to managing work. He was always ready to roll up his sleeves, was unfailingly practical and creative, and treated everyone at the SEC in the same respectful way. He was a warrior as a regulator, and a gentleman and professional to all those who came into contact with him. Truly a rare combination.
George was also generous with his time, loved and was very proud of his family, was an outstanding teacher, and had a really terrific sense of humor and perspective.

George and I became fast friends when we began to work together in about 1980 at the SEC, due to our common military background during the Vietnam War era. George was my mentor during most of my career at the SEC, and I owe much of my work success to him. We had some great times together during enforcement investigations, Commission meetings, POB oversight visits, and SEC/PCAOB interactions. I really missed my almost daily contact with him when he left the SEC and went to the NASDAQ and then the PCAOB, but we frequently got together on business or for lunch until I retired from the SEC in 2006. I have always admired George for his honesty, intelligence, and work ethic.
