George Morgan Davis' Obituary
George Morgan Davis, 86, passed away at home in Annapolis, MD, on June 19, 2024.
George was born in Bridgeport, CT, on May 21, 1938, the son of William Earle Davis and Amelia (Morgan) Davis. He attended Mount Hermon School (MA), Marietta College (OH), and the University of Michigan (PhD, Biology, 1965). He began his research career in snail-borne diseases with disease reconnaissance in SE Asia for the US Army, followed by positions at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, the University of Pennsylvania, and George Washington University, working throughout SE Asia and China. All scientists mentor, but George went the extra mile to rescue the careers and even the lives of several students and colleagues.
In retirement, he and his wife and scientific colleague of 49 years, Elaine Hoagland, sailed the Atlantic coast on their beloved yacht Earendil and summered on Cape Cod.
George is survived by Elaine; two daughters, Lynne Anderson and Julia Lockwood; 5 grandchildren; brother, William E. Davis; and niece, Robin Burns.
