George William Cosper III's Obituary
Gee Cosper, 70, a retired United States Secret Service Agent who protected 5 presidents, passed away on July 18, 2017 at his home in Annapolis, Maryland due to complications from Dementia with Lewy Bodies. Gee was born July 27, 1946 to George and Betty Cosper of Annapolis, Maryland and Savannah, Georgia.
Gee was a 1964 graduate of Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Maryland where he earned recognition as a 1st Team All State Football player as well as breaking the county record for touchdowns his senior year.
Gee attended the University of Maryland on a football scholarship. At Maryland, Gee served as President of Phi Delta Theta fraternity where he received leadership awards for his service in the fraternal system. During the summer before his senior year at Maryland, Gee tried out and received a contract with the Washington Redskins farm club, the Virginia Sailors. He graduated with a BS in Public Relations from the University of Maryland and a MS in Criminal Justice from George Washington University.
Upon graduation from Maryland, Gee was commissioned as a Special Agent in the United States Secret Service. Gee was a twenty-year veteran with the Secret Service from 1969 - 1989 with fourteen years in command positions. He served on the Presidential Protective Detail for five Presidents, represented the Secret Service as their liaison to the U.S. Congress and State Department, conducted major criminal investigations, and supervised the protection of over 100 visiting heads of state.
Upon retirement from the Secret Service, Gee was hired by the Rouse Company of Columbia, Maryland where he developed and managed the Security & Life Safety Program as Director of Corporate Security for seven years.
In 1998, Gee established Gee Cosper & Associates, a Corporate Security Management company. GCA clients included T Rowe Price, Legg Mason, Prime Retail, Archdiocese of Baltimore, Baltimore Ravens, and Broadway Services. At Broadway Services, Gee developed and implemented Silver Star Security.
Gee was an Adjunct Professor on the faculty at the University of Maryland, College Park, in Criminal Justice for twelve years where he wrote, developed, and taught an undergraduate course in entrepreneurship in criminal justice. In 1991, he was appointed to the Governor’s Executive Advisory Council for the State of Maryland. In 1995, Gee was selected to serve on the newly formed Security Advisory Board for the International Council of Shopping Centers. He was also a member of the American Society for Industrial Security, the International Association of Professional Security Consultants, and the Department of State Overseas Security Advisory Council. In 2006, Gee was selected to be on the Transition Team for the Maryland Governor Elect.
Gee served in volunteer positions to include the Green Hornet Youth Program where he was a coach and Director of Sports for Lacrosse, Football, and Basketball. In addition, he volunteered on the original Board of Directors for ASPIRE, a Severna Park community improvement association and was the President of the Linstead Community Association.
Gee is survived by his wife of fifty years, Laura, and his son, Michael, daughter-in-law Krystal, and grandson Quinn of La Jolla, CA. The family will be having a private memorial service on the Severn River where Gee made many lasting memories.
