George W. Burroughs' Obituary
George W. "Buddy" Burroughs, 87, of Edgewater passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2018.
He was born in Washington, D.C., on April 11, 1931 to the late Charles J. and Margarette E. Burroughs. After graduating from Maryland Park High School, he joined the United States Army. George married his wife Jane Lee Blake in 1953. He worked for Washington Gas Light Company for many years.
He also served as a Volunteer Firefighter for Hillside Volunteer Fire Dept. and Boulevard Heights Volunteer Fire Department. George is survived by his two daughters: Sharon L. Phillips (Randy) of Edgewater, MD and Cathy L. Cox of Jacksonville, FL; three grandchildren: Russell Phillips (Debbie) of West River, MD, Brooke Sellars (Donny Denslow) of Jacksonville, FL and Laura Lee (Ronnie) of Edgewater, MD; ten great-grandchildren; three siblings; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane and four siblings. A graveside service will begin at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 26 at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 West Central Ave. Davidsonville, MD 21035. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Woodland Beach Volunteer Fire Department, 529 Londontown Road, Edgewater, MD 21037.
