Frigga Katharina Gibbs' Obituary
Frigga Katharina Gibbs (nee Bahr), a long time resident of Annapolis, MD, departed this world on September 11, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born January 10, 1939 in Kiel, Germany, Frigga immigrated to the United States after meeting her love, a handsome scientist, Robert Henry Gibbs, Jr (d. 1988). Together they raised their 3 children in Kensington, MD.
Frigga, known also as Mom, Omi, Tante Frigga, and Mom Gibbs, loved her life in Annapolis. She had a joie de vivre that was contagious. Her home was always open to others, whether for drinks on the deck or her well known July 4th gatherings. She created a home where all were welcome. She was a fun and mischievous person that wouldn’t hesitate to throw water on sunbathers from her balcony or jump in the pool with her clothes on.
Frigga loved to travel. She travelled much of the world with her husband. Later in life, her favorite trips were to Hawaii where she loved whale watching with her daughter.
She was a lifelong lover of animals. There was always the pitter patter of little paws in her home and for many years the squawking of a parrot. She rescued countless animals in her lifetime and loved them all dearly.
Frigga is having a martini, extra dry, straight up, with olives, with her long-departed husband, Robert, her son Hans-Thomas Robert, sister, Heidrun and brothers Hans-Uwe and Hans-Peter. She is survived by her devoted daughter Adrienne Gibbs Bales and her husband, Russ; her son, Hans Gibbs and his wife, Karen; step-daughter Betsy Gibbs; her brother Hans-Joachim Bahr, his wife Irene and daughter Vanessa and her new husband, Daniel. She also leaves behind loving grandchildren, Katharina M. Elberti, Hans-Robert (Robbie) and Hans-Andrew (Andy) Gibbs, Ryan (wife Christina) and Kevin (wife Alexandra) Bales, great-grandson Landon Bales, as well as countless others who loved her.
There will be a grand party in the future to celebrate the fun-loving woman that was Frigga. Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake or the SPCA.
