Frances Legg Wilmer's Obituary
Frances Legg Wilmer, 94, of Annapolis died peacefully at her home on February 7, 2018.
Born in Starr, Queen Anne’s County on September 26, 1923 to George Washington Legg and Emma Pippin Legg.
Graduate of Centreville High School Class of 1940. Moved to Easton. Took Post Graduate Course in Commercial Business at Easton High School.
A veteran of World War II after enlisting in newly established Women’s Cost Guard SPARS serving from 1943 to 1945. After discharge was employed as Office Manager in Wilmington until being offered position as Clerk to County Commissioners of Queen Anne’s County in 1946. Served in that position until October 1966. Resigned for marriage to Joseph M. Wilmer, owner of Wilmer’s Communications, Inc. of Edgewater, Anne Arundel County.
Became Vice President, Secretary of Wilmer’s Communications, Inc. until retirement in 2010. Enjoyed travel, gardening and spending time with friends.
She was a Life Member of American Legion Post No. 17, served as the first female Adjutant. Life Member U.S. Navy League, Member of Eastport United Church.
Survived by Joseph M. Wilmer, husband of 51 years; stepdaughter, Diane Bynum; granddaughter, Michele Mendez and husband Edmund Mendez; great-grandchildren, Daniel Contreras and Tiyanih Mendez; sister-in-law, Eulah Lee Legg of Cambridge and numerous nieces and nephews.
Proceeded in death by siblings, Margaret A. Edgell, sister; George W. Legg, Jr., brother; and J. Emory Legg, brother.
Military Honors will be on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Chesterfield Cemetery, Centreville MD at 11:30 am.
