Florence Harper Haney's Obituary
Florence Harper Haney, 98, Annapolis area resident for 30 + years died Aug 16, 2024.
Born November 1925 in Denver, CO to John and Kathryn Harper. Raised in Oklahoma oil boom towns during the dust bowl. Graduated from Seminole OK high school and one year at University of Oklahoma. Moved to CA during WWII and worked at Mare Island and Oakland Army Ordnance. Attended University of California Berkeley met and married husband, George, and both graduated before starting a family. She was a social worker and freelance writer all her life. Part of a pilot program in West Virginia for the Homemaker Unit of Aid to Dependent Children. In San Jose, CA she worked in the Santa Clara County alcoholism unit. She was a docent at the Historical Museum. She worked in the archives, did genealogical research, edited the newsletter, and performed in living history days.
She was active in many churches to which she belonged.; from writing plays, to singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school classes, and being a deacon. Creator and editor of newsletter "Footprints for Church of the Foothills." As chairwoman of the Heritage Baptist Church Centennial Committee, she co-wrote the history book of the church and composed an original hymn. She wrote many Christian plays, poems and stories. Many published by Standard Publishing Co. She also wrote mysteries and Sci-Fi. She was a huge Star Trek fan. She loved to travel. She and George travelled all over the world. She made it to 48 states and all continents except Australia.
She leaves three sons: Larry and wife Cris, Dave and wife Terri, and Steve, along with five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, George; and one great great granddaughter.
