Ellen Marie Poole's Obituary
Ellen Marie Poole, known best as Marie, was called home to be with Jesus on Saturday, September 4, 2021 in Annapolis, Maryland at 69 years of age.
Marie was born on February 25, 1952 to James and Ellen Astlin in Washington, DC and she was the oldest of seven children. Marie attended Bladensburg High School in Bladensburg, MD. She married William Lyman Poole on January 10, 1970, and together they had three children - Jeffery, Steven, and Christopher. Throughout her life, she was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, wife, and pet owner. Marie also loved her career as a nursing assistant caring for others, especially her job at Ginger Cove in Annapolis.
Marie moved to Annapolis in 1987 with her family. She enjoyed living in Annapolis and walking around the Naval Academy, living in Bay Highlands near the beach, going to Quiet Waters Park, crabbing, and taking the city bus all over town. She eventually attended Anne Arundel Community College where she took courses to be a Certified Nursing Assistant in order to better provide for her family and to help others. Marie was very close to her children and her mother throughout her life. She also loved her dog Maggie more than any other pet she ever owned, but she certainly loved them all (even the birds).
Marie was known by everyone who knew her as a strong, resilient woman. She did her best to raise her kids and provide for them. Her biggest disappointment in life was the loss of her son Jeffery in 2007 when he was 36 years old. Even then, however, she led her family through the crisis and continued to do her best. Despite many obstacles throughout her life, Marie always overcame the challenges and made the best out of it. She put her faith in God and accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior, whom she credited for giving her strength to face life’s hardest circumstances.
Marie is survived by her two sons, Steven and Christopher Poole; two grandsons, Easton and Lucas Poole; six siblings, Sharon Stevens, Michael Astlin, Lori Behrens, Richard Astlin, Rebecca Metzger, and Barbara Sampson; and husband, William Poole.
Marie was preceded in death by her mother, Ellen Astlin; son, Jeffery Poole; and grandson, Jacob Poole.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to cover cremation expenses. Donations may be arranged through Christopher Poole by calling 419-902-9454.
“Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.” - 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 NIV
