Eleanor Greene's Obituary
Eleanor Greene, 86, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, passed away on January 9, 2023, after suffering complications from a major stroke. Eleanor was born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland, to Viola Offer Jones (deceased) and William Offer (deceased). She graduated from Wiley G. Bates High School in 1954, and for decades Eleanor was actively involved in her Bates’ Alumni Chapter as Social Director. Eleanor was 5 years old when her father passed away suddenly, leaving her mother a widow with 10 children. As a result, Eleanor began working at the age of 14 to help support the family. These early life challenges fueled her drive and determination to excel both academically and professionally. In December 1969, Eleanor enrolled in Community College of Baltimore School of Nursing graduating in March 1972 (Top 5% of her class), and she passed the Registered Nursing Certification soon thereafter. Eleanor started her career as an Emergency Room Nurse at John Hopkins and over the course of her career held numerous practitioner and executive positions spanning over 35 years. Her career culminated as the Director of Nurses for Baltimore City Health Department (School Nurses). During her career Eleanor received numerous accolades, but she was most proud of receiving Nurse of the Year 1999 presented by the Honorable Kurt Schmoke (Mayor of Baltimore). Eleanor continued her academic pursuits later in her career with receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing Administration from Graceland University in Iowa.
Eleanor was an long-standing member of Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Severn and Saint Ambrose Catholic Church in Baltimore. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. On April 6, 1961, Eleanor married the love of her life, Clyde Von Greene (deceased). Eleanor and Clyde moved to Baltimore and raised a daughter, Dierdra Venita (deceased), a son Terek Von, and a granddaughter, Keisha Maria. Eleanor is survived by three siblings, Evelyn Rosetta Brown (Lexington, South Carolina), John (“Johnny Boy”) Jones (Annapolis, Maryland), and Leschia Clemmons (White Plains, Maryland), her son, Terek V. Green (daughter-in-law Brenda Morris), three grandchildren, Keisha M. Greene, Brooke V. Green, Terek V. Green, Jr., two great-grandchildren, Charles (“Chuck”) Jennings, Jr. and Anthony (“Tony”) Bell, and a host of adopted sons and daughters, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and classmates.
We give special thanks to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, Pasadena, Maryland, for their compassion and care, as well as the residents at Park View Apartments - Furnace Branch in Glen Burnie for their love and laughter.
