Edward William Pinkney, Jr.'s Obituary
Edward William Pinkney, Jr., born Wednesday, August 11, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland, is the only son of the late Edward William Pinkney, Sr., and Ora Davis-Pinkney, and the youngest of two children to have been born from their union. He departed this life and went home to be with the Lord in the early hours of the morning on Monday, September 28, 2020 at seventy-seven years of age.
Edward received his initial Christian education and training as a baptized member of the Mount Zion United Methodist Church, located in Annapolis, Maryland, where he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at a young age. He was later confirmed and received into the church as a full, professing member of the congregation.
Edward was a life-long, dedicated officer and member of the church who faithfully participated in its ministry and mission with his prayers, his presence, his service, his gifts, and his witness down through the years as the Chairperson of the Administrative Council, a member of the Board of Trustees, and as the Volunteer Bus Driver for the Sunday School Ministry, just to name a few. He also founded the Willing Workers Ministry, which existed to assist and support the overall ministry and mission of the church in whatever way possible.
Having received his formal academic education in the Anne Arundel County Public School System, Edward graduated from the former Wiley H. Bates Senior High School of Annapolis, Maryland in 1962, and shortly thereafter he married his high school sweetheart, Emily Jeanette Pinkney, and from this union they were blessed with two daughters, Karen Deneen and Sheree Michelle.
Edward was truly a jack of all trades. He worked as a truck driver for the former Hecht Company in Washington, D.C. , and then for the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, first as a baker, and finally as the President of American Federation of Government Employees Union - Local 896 (Department of Defense) up until his retirement. in Annapolis, Maryland. Some of Edward’s many hobbies included cooking, fishing, gardening, listening to “oldies but goodies” music, taking family vacations, traveling, and watching his pet fish, just to name a few.
Edward was caring and beautiful person, inside and out. He lived his life to the fullest; he loved his family unconditionally, and he always looked out for his friends. He genuinely enjoyed being in the company and presence of his family and friends. In fact, his greatest joy and pleasure in life was being able to spend time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and attending church, all of whom he loved dearly and spoiled rotten every chance he got..
Edward leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of almost sixty years, Emily Jeanette Pinkney; , one daughter, Sheree Michelle Sharps (James); one sister, Greta Thompson (Charles); five grandchildren, Jenifer (Darius), Michael (Carolyn), Samantha, Kayla and Jazmyne [a few of the other grandchildren are Keishia, Torreka, Kyra, Shanika, Cameron, Dartisha, Taniya, and “That’s My Boy” Khamryn]; sixteen great-grandchildren; and one Goddaughter, Rowlena Edwards
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward William Pinkney, Sr., and Ora Davis-Pinkney; his eldest daughter, Karen Deneen Brockington-Georgia; and his eldest sister, Oralean Pinkney- Thompson (and brother-in-law, Andrew).
