Edward Charles Halligan's Obituary
As his family, we want to share with our loving community the sad news of the death of our beloved Edward “Ed” Halligan, who passed away peacefully at his home on February 2nd, at the age of 73.
Born in Buffalo, New York, into a wonderful family with Irish-Catholic and German roots, Ed's life can be characterized by a remarkable work ethic from an early age. Even before turning 18, he worked in the longshoreman's union. After attending Buffalo State and earning his degree in Criminal Justice, Ed embarked on his life’s calling in law enforcement, moving to Baltimore in 1973 to join the Baltimore City Police Department. Ed's career journey continued when he joined the DEA in 1983, dedicating an additional 24 years to the agency.
Throughout Ed’s life, he constantly reminisced about his time as a patrolman, homicide detective, and countless narcotics interdiction cases. He also spoke fondly of international assignments in countries like Russia, India, and during the Invasion of Panama.
Much of his career can be defined by his roles in various leadership positions. These were exemplified during his tenure as the Resident Agent in Charge in Charleston, South Carolina, his instructional roles at Quantico, and his concluding roles at DEA Headquarters in Arlington, VA in the Office of Professional Responsibility.
Post-DEA, Ed also made significant contributions with the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, as well as the FBI.
Throughout this journey, Ed amassed a tremendous number of close friends, whose camaraderie he cherished and of whom he spoke daily.
Alongside his treasured friends, he also is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Kelly, Kristin (Derrick), Dante, Kevin, and Patrick (Becca); 11 grandchildren; and sister, Patricia Lesinski (Joseph). Ed was also an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills, Sabres, and Baltimore Orioles, a passion that mirrored his enthusiasm for life.
Known for being the life of every gathering, and a friend to all, Ed's humor, generosity, and the unforgettable memories he created will be deeply missed. As we mourn, we find solace in the love and support from family and friends, and in the beautiful memories of Ed's incredible life.
We are planning a celebration of Ed's life and career, details of which will be shared soon. Our family wanted to ensure that all of our friends were aware of his passing (feel free to share with anyone that may have known him), and we invite you to join us in remembering and celebrating an extraordinary man whose life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and most importantly love.
