Mr Dwight Thomas' Obituary
Dwight Thomas was born November 4, 1946, in Annapolis, MD. He is the son of the late Upton and Alexina Thomas. Dwight passed peacefully at home on Sunday, May 3, 2026. He was fondly known to friends as “Cat.” He graduated from Wiley H. Bates High School in 1964.
Professionally, Dwight became the first African-American Maryland Driver’s License Examiner in 1967. He went on to serve as a Manager in the Montgomery County School System for 31 years. He retired December 2004.
In the 1970’s, Dwight moved to Washington, DC where he met and married the love of his life Sarah. Dwight and Sarah were married April 10, 1982. He especially enjoyed many romantic getaways with Sarah in Atlantic City, NJ.
Dwight gave his life to Christ at a young age and joined Asbury Broadneck United Methodist Church with his family. He became a member of Potomac Baptist Church while in Washington, DC where he served on the Trustee Board—several years as Chair.
Dwight and Sarah moved back to Annapolis in 1990. He rejoined Asbury Broadneck United Methodist Church where he served on several committees and ministries. He served on the Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC), Men’s Ministry, Food Pantry Ministry, Health & Welfare and Warm Nights Ministry. He also served as a Trustee.
Dwight was an avid golfer. He looked forward to his Thursday golf outings with his brother Upton and his golf buddies. He was excited when he hit a Hole in One on the 18th Hole at the Bay Hills Golf Course!
Dwight liked to dress. He loved to wear suits and ties. His Pastor once commented how he and Upton would wear suits and ties in Summer when church attire is usually relaxed.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents Upton, Sr. and Alexina, brothers James Allen Thomas, Stanley Charles Thomas, Harold Taylor, and his sister Janice Mack.
He leaves to treasure his loving spirit, Sarah, his wife of 44 years; Son, Min. Darryl Robinson (William); Nephew/Son, Eric Harley; God Son, Rodney Parker, Jr. (Rosa); 2 brothers, Upton Thomas and Ralph Thomas, Sr. (Virginia); 2 sisters, Cynthia Dark and Ruth Parker (Rodney); sister in law Beverly Taylor and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
