My mom always talked about him dancing around our pool singing “What’s Love Got to Do With It.” And when we were kids, we made a band called “The Dust Busters” and he was our lead singer. I remember going to see fireworks on 4th of July after pool parties and banging pots and pans on New Year’s in Port Vue.
All his life, Dustin retained the sweetness, kindness, and warmth that he displayed when I first met him, when he was just three years old. I'll miss laughing with him, sharing snarky asides, and seeing his fuzzy face at family gatherings. But I know he was suffering, more and more, as time went on. In 4th or 5th grade at Lititz Elementary I introduced myself to Dustin because he was sporting a Pittsburgh shirt and we quickly connected. We would later find out we were on the same T-ball team in Penn Hills in kindergarten after finding a team photo at his dad’s place. I spent a ton of my teenage years running around with Dustin and the more time I take to think, the more I remember his impact on me and the people around him.
