Douglas Albert Williams' Obituary
Douglas Albert Williams, 71, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2014 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Douglas “Douggie” Williams, son of the late James Leon Williams, Sr. and Frances Katherine Williams, was born on November 16, 1942 in Annapolis, Maryland. He was the second oldest of ten children.
Douggie attended Anne Arundel County Public Schools and graduated from Wiley H. Bates in 1961.
Douggie was a hard worker; he was employed at The United States Naval Academy, retiring in 2004.
Douggie aka “Gossenberg” was an avid sports fan; he enjoyed basketball, football, and golf. He played sports in high school as well as playing football on the “flames” team of Spa Road. His hobbies included playing cards, golf and horseshoes. Douggie could always be found with family or friends and would not pass up having crabs, a cold beer, and a drink of VSQ. You always heard him before you saw him and could not resist his big smile.
Douggie was married to the late Waverlean Williams. He is survived by seven daughters; Waverlean (Kathy) Williams-Smith (Todd), Tywanaeka Williams, Shelly Williams, Yvonne Williams-Brown, Yvette Williams-Harris (Brian), Wanda Williams, Shyere Cornish, and the late Katrice Cornish, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Douggie is survived by two aunts: Mary Alice Harris and Flora Powell; one uncle: Albert Williams Jr.; and seven siblings: James Williams, Jr. Sarah “Diane” Simms, Barbara Jean Brown, Pamela Williams, Thomas Williams, Kim Scott, and Kathy Stevens. He was preceded in death by his sister, Doris “Dink” Wise and his brother, Floyd “Buzz” Williams. He will truly be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and dear friends.
