Dorothy Payne Simmons' Obituary
Dorothy Payne Simmons, 90, a resident of Annapolis, died peacefully December 8 at Rutherford Manor after a lengthy illness.
She was born April 6, 1922 in Southeast, DC and resided primarily in Silver Spring, MD. She attended St. Cecilia Catholic High School where she was the valedictorian of her class. She was a homemaker who loved to knit and sew, and later worked as an administrative assistant at the National Institute of Mental Health in Adelphi, MD.
She was preceded in death by her husband, an attorney, James Benjamin Simmons, in 2005. She was also predeceased by her sister, Patricia and her daughter, Nancy.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Mary Sue Simmons of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Jo Ann Abell of Lexington, Virginia, and Kathie Lehtonen of Crownsville, Maryland; ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.
Friends may visit at the Lasting Tributes Cremation & Funeral Care 814 Bestgate Road, Annapolis on Thursday, December 13th from 10am to noon. A funeral service will be held at noon.
Interment will be held privately at Gate of Heaven in Silver Spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake 445 Defense Hwy. Annapolis, MD 21401.
