Dorothy Margaret Schwartz's Obituary
Dorothy Margaret Schwartz, a resident of Severna Park, MD passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Fairfield Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Crownsville.
She was born on June 23, 1920 in Baltimore, MD to Edwin & Margaret Blum. Graduated from Eastern High School in Baltimore in 1938. She was predeceased by her husband of 32 years, Henry A. Schwartz in 1973. She is survived by her loving children: Joan Ellen Schellhase and Allan Henry Schwartz; four special grandchildren: Amanda Bredeck, Margaret White, Allison Hankey & Dustin Schwartz and 7 fabulous great-grandchildren; her caring brothers, Howard E. Blum, retired Naval officer & Robert W. Blum, retired Army officer and numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy was the “glue” that kept the family together. She will be sorely missed by all those who knew her and her lively personality.
Dorothy was a wonderful cook, talented seamstress, excelled with any type of needlework, cross stich and quilting. She had a quick mind and a feisty personality. Always caring & religious, she was very involved with helping others in her church and community at both local and regional levels. She was the church secretary for many years at St. Matthews UCC in Baltimore, MD. After her husband died she worked at JHU at the Research & Development Center until retirement. She also volunteered at the Severna Park United Methodist Church in Severna Park.
One of Dorothy’s greatest volunteer accomplishments was to be involved in the founding of “Earl’s Place” through United Ministries Inc., a transitional housing program located in E. Baltimore which provides housing to homeless men & helps them find jobs and transition to independent living.

Visitation is on Wednesday, November 29 at Lasting Tributes, www.LastingTributesFuneral Care.com, 814 Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, MD. from 6-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ, 3400 Norman Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21213 on Thursday, November 30 at 11 a.m. Interment at Lorraine Park Cemetery & Mausoleum immediately following the Service.
