Doris remains close to my heart, a true friend and wonderful senior NCO. We were stationed together at San Vito dei Normanni Air Station, over in southern Italy, 1985-88. We lived for 2 months in a ratty hotel, before we got housing ... and forged a bond that would last throughout our lives.
Doris was a stand-out memorable individual. She was a beautiful person, inside and out ... she commanded respect with her professionalism, drive, and devotion to duty. She truly cared about the young men and women with whom we worked. I remember when our Commander left, he counseled all of the branch chiefs and senior personnel; however, Doris wasn't called in. When she asked why, he seemed surprised and admitted he didn't have a thing he'd change or a single suggestion for improvement! She was truly an inspiration!
I always looked forward to working with her ... Doris was an upbeat and motivated woman -- she made you want to put your best effort into everything and she did it with a positive manner. My days were brighter with Doris Keeton around! I've enjoyed talking with her over the phone since we've both retired ... all the way through her ordeal, she sounded strong, upbeat, and feisty. I remember her bravery, when she said her life was in God's hands and her Faith made her believe that whatever the outcome, it was God's Will. It was almost as if she was consoling ME over her challenge! What an amazing, singular girl. My husband and I consider ourselves lucky to have known and served overseas with Doris.
Our sincere condolences and prayers for her sons and the rest of her extended family and friends. We love you and are so sorry for your loss. Kim & Warren Hagen of St Ignace, MI
