Donna Stevens Buono's Obituary
Donna Stevens Buono, 83, longtime Annapolis resident, passed away peacefully at her home on August 2, 2024. Born in Annapolis and raised in Pines-On-The-Severn in Arnold, she graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1959 and later married Robert T. Buono, now deceased, whom she met at the Annapolis Car Wash. That chance encounter with her naval aviator husband led to the birth of their first daughter, now deceased, Leslie Donn (Buono) Whitman and their second daughter, Kimberly (Buono) Chapin. Her daughters, along with her three granddaughters, were her pride & joy. Those who knew her knew that she would often tell stories about them and was immensely proud of their accomplishments.
Donna spent much of her younger years as a homemaker. As the girls got older, Donna put her stylish fashion sense to use working at Elanne’s Boutique on Maryland Avenue. Donna was a strong supporter of the Providence Center, where her beloved late brother, Louis Stevens, attended. She had a generous and giving heart, donating to the underprivileged in her community & other philanthropic organizations. Donna loved to laugh, was a master story & joke teller and was always impeccably dressed no matter what the occasion. In her later years, she worked as a property manager in Annapolis. Donna’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family and dear friends. Donna also leaves behind her older sister and best friend, Nona Luce. Whether it was shopping, long phone calls or holidays, Donna and Nona had an unbreakable bond since birth.
People were her passion. She loved talking on the telephone, resisting the use of modern technology. She never owned a computer or a smart-phone, but instead, favored her flip-phone and landline instead. Her fashion sense, eternal youth, confidence in standing out and generous love was unmatched. She loved her home, her family, her friends and her life. She will be greatly missed.
A funeral will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 11am at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 1601 Pleasant Plains Rd., Annapolis, MD 21409. A celebration of life luncheon will immediately follow in the church hall.
She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly (Buono) Chapin, her sister and brother-in-law, Minona and Ralph Luce, her granddaughters, Kendall R. Chapin, Madison C. Chapin and Abigail D. Chapin and her nephews John Luce (Gina) and Steve Luce.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Donna’s name to the Providence of Maryland, 930 Point Pleasant Rd., Glen Burnie, MD 21060 (410-766-2212) providenceofmaryland.org/get-involved/giving-opportunities (http://providenceofmaryland.org/get-involved/giving-opportunities)
