Donald C. Watson's Obituary
We are heartbroken to announce the death of our father, Donald C. Watson of Chester, MD. He passed away surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Compass in Centreville, MD. after a short illness. He was 76 years old.
Born in Washington, DC. On May 10, 1946, he was the adopted son of the late Mark Watson and Ollie Lee Sherrill Watson/ Thompson of Lewisdale, MD. He leaves behind his six children, Kimberly Paddy (Michael), Keith Watson (Lizzie), Carrie Dilling (Steele), Daniel Watson (Chrysten), Kathryn Singer (Joseph), Matthew Watson (Marni), and 19 grandchildren, as well as his partner of many years, Eileen Civello.
He graduated from from Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, MD. in 1964. He then continued his education at the University of Maryland. After several years of schooling, he started work in the USPS, but then later started a long career as a settlement officer at Beltway Title in Lanham, MD. He retired in 2011 and immediately moved to the Eastern Shore to be closer with his children and their families.
He was a lifelong sports fan. He enjoyed cheering on the Redskins, Orioles, Capitals, and the UMD men's basketball team. Don also enjoyed reading a good book (especially in the sun), debating politics, and having a good cigar with a bourbon or a scotch while listening to music. He also enjoyed the quiet moments feeding the birds on his patio.
Many people knew him by the funny nicknames of Don Juan and Ultra Don, but his favorite named to be called was Dad and Grandad. Since he was an only child he was very proud of having created such a large family and loved most of all to spend time with them. He would often be caught bragging about them to anyone who would listen because that was what brought the most meaning and joy to him in this world.
Although he has left his family behind and is missed tremendously, he will always be in our hearts and minds for the rest of our lives.
"Through 76 years of perpetual motion,
If he likes you, he'll smile and say,
Some of it's magic,
And some of it's tragic,
But I had a good life all the way."
~Jimmy Buffet
"I want a house with a crowded table,
And a place by the fire for everyone,
Let us take on the world while we're young and able,
And bring us back together when the day is done."
~The Highwomen
