Don and Martha, It was an honor to know both of you through the Stalag Luft III reunions. I loved Don's stories and cherish the times we spent together. I have shared the story of the Buchenwald Boys to many, many family and friends. We as a nation must never forget the sacrifices made. RIP my friend.
Mr. Donald Shearer was my neighbor as a child growing up so I have known him for many years. I will never forget going to his house and watching films on birds and was amazed how much he knew. He also told us stories about the war of which I wish I could remember more. Thank you so much for your service. There are so many fond, great, beautiful memories of him. I also worked with him at Union Carbide and knew him well. Whenever I was at his house or he was at ours, I felt like he was part of the family. He will be missed. Martha and Donna - So sorry for your loss. Sympathy and peace forever.

And they brought up a wonderful daughter who reflects their legacy of loyalty and humor and appreciation of life. Martha, I don’t know if you remember me. I can honestly say knowing your husband was a great value to me. I remember showing my son his videos. Brad is in the Air Force and remembered his sacrifices. You had a beautiful life together! And the world was better with him in it. I truly missed you both and my prayers are with your family.
I have missed hearing the stories of your life. As a child I enjoyed sitting on the floor in your basement watching the sides from your many trips. I liked some of the things you picked up on the trips, the tumble weed, a Hopei Doll, and many other items. You are a very good man and will be greatly missed by many who knew you. The last time I saw you, you were talking about your war years. It was on the school channel. While I watched I went back in my mind to listening to you and Martha talk about the many trips. I am sorry for your loss Martha, Donna and family and have you in my prayers.
Mr. Shearer was a remarkable human being. I am so blessed to have met him and listened to his war story. I could have sat with him and just listened to him all day long if given the opportunity. After meeting Mr. Shearer, I learned that my children's Great Grandfather was with General Patton when the POW's were freed from Buchenwald Concentration Camp in 1945. What special memories for them to have of their Papaw Lloyd. Thank you for your service, kind sir! Your memories I will cherish forever.
Martha, I am so sorry to hear of Don's loss. I remember you two often and wish I could have seen you both before now. I have great memories of Don speaking and tell about his war service. May God bless you, your daughter and grandson.

Mr. Shearer was a fascinating and dear man. As a child growing up on Summit Drive I would spend hours following him around as he piddled with his travel trailer, tended his garden and communed with nature. He had an abundance of patience with an annoying neighborhood kid. Only later in life have I come to learn how truly fascinating he was. It is assured that he will rest, as he lived, in peace.

What a great human being he was!! Sure miss all the fun we had as a child making dinners, watching slides and he even video us on our first day of school!!! Can't mention my childhood without thinking of him!! Great memories!!!!
