Dolores S. Coleman's Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dolores Susan Coleman (née Dauses), a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, at the age of 84, in Anne Arundel Medical Center, surrounded by family.
Dee was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and lived in Western New York for more than 30 years before retiring to her Maryland roots in her favorite vacation spot, Ocean Pines.
Dee graduated from The Catholic High School and Saint Joseph's Nursing School in Baltimore. As a registered nurse and certified wound care specialist, she was dedicated to patient care in the emergency department and in nursing supervision at both DeGraff Memorial Hospital in North Tonawanda, New York, and in home healthcare in the Western New York region. She was known for her exceptional cooking, especially Maryland crab soup. Dee’s bountiful homegrown fruits, vegetables, and plants of any kind led to her reputation as a green thumb. She enjoyed ceramics, knitting and crocheting, and scrapbooking, and she made an abundance of gifts for everyone. Her baby blankets were favorites and in great demand. Dee loved to have fun. She belonged to the Red Hats and enjoyed the beach, crab feasts, traveling, reading, music, dancing, driving her very own sports car, and spending time with her grandchildren and her sisters.
She is survived by her five children: John J. Coleman, III (Sherrie), Kathleen Dangle, Michael P. Coleman (Susan), Michelle Traxel (James), and Andrew T. Coleman; her cherished grandchildren: John J. Coleman IV, Matthew, Nathan and Hayden Dangle, Joshua and Trevor Coleman, and McKenna and Conor Traxel; her sisters: Sr. Kathy Dauses, OSF, Pam Dauses, Anne Harrell, and Margye Hamlin (née Dauses); her nieces and nephews: Mike MacDonald (Sheila), Susan Jurenko (Matthew), Scott MacDonald (Staci), Melissa Hamlin, Brigid Clevenger (Tucker), Mollie McDonnell, Ann (David Raynes), Patrick Coleman, David Coleman; and many great-nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, John J. Coleman, Jr.; her parents, Eleanor J. (née Chlan) and Joseph J. Dauses; her sister, Mary Jo MacDonald; her brother-in-law, Roger Lee Harrell, Sr.; her sister-in-law, Rhoda Coleman; her son-in-law, Mark Dangle; her niece, Melony Howard (née Hamlin); and her nephews: Carbra J. McDonnell IV and Roger Lee Harrell, Jr.
A funeral mass will be held on June 20, 2025, at Saint Mary’s Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD, at 10:30 a.m. A graveside service will be held at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery Chapel, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Red Cross of the National Capital & Greater Chesapeake Region in honor of the many gallons of blood she donated over her lifetime.
