I met Diane at CERSI Camp in 2019. The first time I saw her, she was joyfully darting around the college campus, bent over in pursuit of Pokémon with contagious enthusiasm—completely immersed in the augmented reality world of Pokémon GO. Her energy was magnetic. I was instantly drawn to her and walked over to say hello. She warmly explained what she was up to and invited my kids to join her on the hunt.
It was my very first time at camp, and Diane was one of the first people who made me feel truly welcome. She helped orient me to the workshops, gathering spots, and all the after-hours fun. What she didn’t know was that behind the scenes, my best friend since childhood was in her final days—dying of breast cancer that very week. I was quietly holding space for that grief, allowing myself to feel the love, the sorrow, and the slow goodbye... all while also opening myself to the joy, wonder, and playfulness that is CERSI.
Diane was part of the magic that made that possible. Her spirit, her kindness, her sense of fun—all of it helped me feel held in a space where I could be both broken and whole. She was a beacon of light that week, and she leaves an indelible mark on my heart.
I am forever grateful to have known her, and to have played for a little while in the beautiful world of Diane.
Diane and Arden Regar were friends for years so we spent a lot of time together, vacations in Lewes, DE and time at each other’s homes.
Jordan hung with my sons Justin and Nathan.
How sadly ironic that Arden and Diane died of the same disease and such young ages.
I’m sorry for your loss Jordan. Your mom loved you so very much❤️ May your future bring you happiness and loving memories of your mom bring you peace.
