Derwin Ross, affectionately known as “Damon”, of Annapolis, MD, entered eternal rest suddenly at his home on February 24, 2025. Born on November 1, 1957, in Annapolis, MD,
Damon was the beloved father of Davonne and Damon Ross. He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Reese; father, CharlesW. Ross; sister, Tinese Savoy; and brother, Charles W. Ross Sr. (Pat). Damon is survived by two sisters, Tanya Taylor (Thomas) and Greer Ross-McCullough (Frank); one brother, Derek Ross (Deanna); and the loving mother of his children, Gilfreda. He is also survived by his aunts Beatrice Henson, Mary Dale McCoy (Alvin), and Janice Dailey; as well as his nephews Kawan Savoy (Anrika), Delandes (Rico) Green, Charles Ross Jr. (Junko), and Christopher Ross (Pamela), and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
Damon received his education through the Anne Arundel County Public School System and Charlotte Hall Military Academy. Damon also studied at University of Maryland and University of Connecticut. Where he was a standout football player. Damon made impressive contributions to the athletic programs wherever he was. He retired after 20 years of service as a Correctional Officer in Jessup, MD. After his retirement, Damon remained active with several positions, including School Security, Water Treatment Specialist at the U.S. Naval Academy, and Maintenance with the Housing Authority of Annapolis. With a passion for landscaping, Damon eventually ventured into entrepreneurship, building a successful landscaping business that served clients throughout Annapolis and Anne Arundel County. At the time of his passing, he was also in the process of adding another title to his resume as a Taxi Driver. Damon loved staying active—working out, swimming, playing tennis, fishing, and spending summers on his boat. He also enjoyed live music and attending jazz festivals. He was a devoted sports enthusiast, particularly a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Despite his low-key personality and love for solitude. Damon was always there for his children, family, and friends, offering help whenever needed. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
