Dennis K Clark's Obituary
Dennis K Clark, 72, of Arnold, MD, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2014 while surrounded by his family.
Dennis was born on May 5, 1942 in Youngsville, PA to Kenneth Clark and Evelyn (Fitzgerald) Clark. He graduated from Youngsville High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology from Penn State University. He began his career working in the R&D department of the U.S. Navy’s NAVOCEANO program. Shortly thereafter, he became an ocean color research scientist at NOAA, where he remained for the majority of his 42-year career. In that time, Dennis concentrated his research on satellite remote sensing, which garnered multiple awards and honors. He was also credited for developing the world’s most sophisticated Marine Optical Buoy System.
When not studying the ocean, Dennis spent many years enjoying it, both sailing its water with his family on their sailboat, “Dulcinea,” and vacationing on the beaches of Rehoboth, DE and Duck, NC.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Karen; his two children, Kelly and Chad; his daughter-in-law, Lauren; and his three granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Paige and Morgan Miller. Dennis is preceded in death by his father and his mother.
A memorial service and short reception will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis, 333 Dubois Rd., Annapolis, MD 21401 at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2014. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a cause close to Dennis’ heart, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (www.cbf.org).
