Demetra Maria Spanos' Obituary
On May 17, 2026, DEMETRA (Dee) MARIA SPANOS passed away peacefully at home, she was 83. She was the devoted wife of the late Katherine Cook. She is predeceased by her parents, Evangelos Gus Spanos Sr and Theodora (Dorothy) Markakis Spanos; and siblings, Nicholas Spanos and Evangelos (Tike) G. Spanos Jr. She is survived by her sister Marina Lattanzi, loving nieces and nephews, beloved cousins, family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
Dee graduated from the University of Maryland with a BS in Nursing, and earned her MS in Education from the Johns Hopkins School of Continuing Studies. During her extensive nursing career, she worked as a Clinical Nurse at University of Maryland Hospital, a Team Leader at the Shock Trauma Unit, Maryland Institute of Emergency Medicine, a Clinical Nurse at Maryland General Hospital, and later became an In-Service Education Instructor at South Baltimore General Hospital. She worked for 12 years as a Nurse Audit Specialist at UMMS Baltimore. She then worked for the State of Maryland as a Nurse Auditor before retiring.
Dee enjoyed sharing time with her family at the beach in Fenwick Island, was an avid reader, loved to travel, and enjoyed photography as a hobby.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made in Demetra’s name to the charity of your choice.
